My personal opinion is that you can never have too many bookcases! That is just me, however, and is an opinion not shared by my husband. Check out "At Home with Laurie Ann". I love this book -- she helps with redecorating anything from the apartment person like you, to a first-time buyer, or me, with a family (and a house that's been the same too many years to count!). She's got great practical tips for everything, including how to do this on a budget. And she has lots of photos and examples, which is good for someone style-challenged, like me.
