That is just me, however, and is an opinion not shared by my husband. Check out "At Home with Laurie Ann". I love this book -- she helps with redecorating anything from the apartment person like you, to a first-time buyer, or me, with a family (and a house that's been the same too many years to count!). She's got great practical tips for everything, including how to do this on a budget. And she has lots of photos and examples, which is good for someone style-challenged, like me.
