Banana Smoothie: The Secret Ingredient

August 28, 2011

Last Updated:

Frozen bananas are the secret to smoothies. Whether you’re going for a dairy-free option or mixing in some yogurt, bananas are the sweet part that will give you the perfect “milkshake” consistency. The base of your smoothie is bananas and liquid (milk, juice, yogurt, even water). From there you can add pretty much anything — strawberries, blueberries, orange juice, peanut butter.

Ingredients:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup soy, almond, rice or cow milk
  • 1/2 cup of berries (strawberries are a tasty option)

Throw ingredients in blender. Blend away. Remember, you can always add more liquid if your smoothie ends up too thick or add ice if it ends up too thin. Enjoy!

Serves: 1

P.S. Starting now, never throw out an over-ripe banana (unless it’s rotten, then it belongs in the compost, please) — it belongs in your freezer, so you can turn it into a tasty smoothie later!

What’s your favorite banana smoothie?
