While there are also many bigger garden nurseries in Portland, like Portland Nursery, I still love to browse the smaller and more intimate little plant stores for house plants, gifts, and decor inspiration. 1. Pistils Nursery
This local plant shop started in North Portland on Mississippi and now has a second location in NW. It’s a great place to find new plants and gorgeous decor like planters and air plants. One of my favorite things about the Mississippi location is the solarium attached to the shop courtyard. This dreamy shop is mesmerizing and will make you want to buy one of everything! Beyond plants, they also offer plant care workshops.

2. Solabee Flowers & Botanicals
Solabee is like the Instagram dreams for #plantlife people. They offer houseplants, flowers, and a collection of home decor. From rare plants to the ever ubiquitous monstera. They even offer plant delivery to close in neighborhoods around the city. Beyond plants, they design the most gorgeous floral bouquets and arrangements. And also offer a “greening” service to green up your space. This is one of favorite spots to pickup gifts.

3. thicket
Thicket is a garden shop and design studio just off Alberta St in NE Portland. They have a lovely courtyard space near Great Notion Brewing (one of the best breweries in Portland!), Pine State Biscuits, and Sip Juice Cart. While they closed for a few months in winter, they’ll be back open soon! Such a great spot to browse while you wait for a table at one of the many great restaurants nearby. Just remember to buy something! Even a small purchase helps keep shops like this open and not just a place for photo ops for your Instagram feed. ;)

4. Livingscape
Livingscape is one of the last old houses now boxed in by condos between Vancouver and Williams St in North Portland. They have new owners in the last couple years, and the shop is still as cozy as ever. You can find houseplants, smaller garden supplies like starts and seeds, and even chicken supplies. Beyond general garden stuff, they focus on NW native plants and medicinal plants!

5. Garden Fever
Garden Fever is one of the garden shops in Portland that bridges the gap between plant shop and nursery. When you go by, you might think oh there’s a cute little shop. But the space is pretty expansive with a selection of home goods, plants and bushes, garden starts and seeds, and dirt. A great place to pick up your garden starts and seeds when spring hits in Portland! Garden Fever is one of those NE neighborhood gems, for those in Irvington or Alameda!

6. hammer + vine
Hammer + vine is a cute little shop right on West Burnside between Goose Hollow neighborhood and NW shopping district. They sell house plants, home goods and some wellness products.

7. Arium Botanicals
Arium Botanicals is like a secret garden hidden right off MLK in North Portland’s Eliot neighborhood – right on the Tillamook bikeway. They have house plants, supplies, and also offer design and “greening” services. The space is light and airy, with roll up doors, and you’ll wonder how you’ve missed this little spot!

8. Gurton’s Plant Shop
You’ll find Gurton’s Plant Shop in a quaint little strip mall off Capitol Hwy in SW’s Hillsdale neighborhood. And inside, is an oasis of house plants and greenery! From fiddle leaf figs, to monstera to cactus and air plants, Gurton’s has all your house plant needs covered with the small shop family vibe.

9. Appetite Shop
Appetite shop is a beautiful plant place that is now calling their pop-up space home, in Cargo in the Central Eastside. (They were previously located on east Burnside with more home goods). We’re just happy to see them continue in business! They offer a curated selection of plants, planters, macrame and plant hangers. Check them out in the enormous Cargo shop (which is a shopping experience all on its own!) on Yamhill.

10. Local Branch
Local Branch is a plant shop right on Morrison St in Portland’s Buckman neighborhood in the Central Eastside. With big light-filled southwest-facing windows, this shop is plant life heaven. From monstera, bird of paradise, philodendron, to ferns and cactus, Local Branch has it all, plus planters and small gifts, with a touch of vintage as well.

11. Glasshaus Gardens
Glasshaus Gardens is another of Portland’s landscape design turned plant shop spaces. Located between Portland’s Buckman and Kerns neighborhoods, they occupy a charming and colorful storefront! So whether you’re looking for consultation, house plants, or gifts, Glasshaus has you covered.

12. Talise Garden
Talise Gardens is a small plant shop in NW’s Pearl District off NW Flanders Street. They offer house plants from snake plants to prayer plants to cacti and monstera.

13. Birds & Bees Nursery
And to close off the list, Birds & Bees, which is another of Portland’s finest small nurseries / plant shops. Should we be calling them micro-nurseries!? Birds and Bees is at the intersection of SE Portland’s Richmond, South Tabor, and Foster-Powell neighborhoods off SE 50th Ave. Similar to Livingscape and Garden Fever, they offer plants, garden starts and seeds and the ever-abundant house plants and planters stock.
